So this week was an interesting week of many different books. I started with Peter Robinson’s Children of the Revolution. Not my favorite Inspector Banks book but it was good. If you’ve read the others and enjoyed them, you’ll like this one. I felt it moved a bit slower and didn’t have as much suspense as many of the others.
Then I moved on to Jude Watson’s Loot. I’m not sure where I heard about this particular book or why it was on my list. It wasn’t a bad read, but it was something outside my usual reading. It’s a kid’s book mystery. It was more of a suspense book than a mystery and the suspense wasn’t there for me as an adult. However, for kids it might be a good read.
Finally, I got a pile of books that I’d been waiting for. One of them was Jim Butcher’s Skin Game. Again, I had a bit harder time getting into the book (maybe I just haven’t felt like reading?) but once I got there, I enjoyed it. After all, it’s hard not to enjoy it when Michael comes back wielding his sword. And that made it fun. If you love Jim Butcher this is a must read, of course. At the beginning it felt like the same old same old. But about midway through the fun took over and it felt like a really good Dresden novel, with Dresden pretty much back on his game, which I’m not sure he has been for the last few books that meandered a bit more. Definitely a worthwhile read.
