Review: The Fifth Season

I’m not sure what I can say about N.K. Jemisin’s book The Fifth Season that hasn’t already been said before or proven out by being a Hugo Award Winner.

I loved it. It’s one of those books that will need to be read. Original, gripping, could not put it down. Yes, it takes a bit of time to get into. That second person present tense narrator that starts the book is hard to get into but the other narrators are a more normal third person past. Don’t let the narration stop you. This book is worth every second of your time to read.

It’s a book that will stay with me for a very long time. I’m looking forward to the second book in the series, and yes it is part of a series. You might want to wait until you can read them all back to back. I’m kind of waiting for later this year so I can read the third one right after the second one. I’m not worried I’ll forget details. You don’t forget a book a like this.
