Every now and then my husband likes to see horse races. So a few weeks ago he got tickets for seats in the grandstand and planned yesterday as an outing.
Monday and Tuesday we had amazing fall weather, nearly eighty degrees. Wednesday, when we went to the races, it was cloudy, slightly rainy (though not enough to make a mess of the track) with highs in the fifties.
My racing luck wasn’t much better than my weather luck. A horse named Catnip did not perform (which was a disappointment because I pick winners based on their name). I did a Show for Kitten Mischief because kittens are little and probably don’t go fast and fortunately, Kitten Mischief did place third and doubled my bet for a whopping $4.00 win.
By this time, we had moved inside and were standing at the windows looking out to watch the horses run, or watching them on the television. I seem to recall that there was indoor seating at Emerald Downs but then again, that’s a far newer track in an area that’s much more likely to be cloudy and rainy than Kentucky. Keeneland’s grandstand is covered against rain and too much sun but it certainly wasn’t warm!
