I typically don’t create too much of a schedule for the following year in December. I just set goals as far as what I want to get done.
This year a friend had a bingo card with all sorts of goals and, of course, a reward each time they got a bingo. I decided to play with that.
Unfortunately, it’s put me in a position of wanting to make those goals and not the ever changing goals of writing over a year. While it was fun and very helpful at pushing me to get some of the more minor things off my plate, I have felt very locked in to do some things that I’m not quite ready to do.
I’ve written a fair amount this year already and am well on my way to make that word count goal. However, I’ve noticed that having missed that goal last year, the first time I’ve ever done it, I always feel as if writing must take first place, rather than writing and editing and creating artwork for covers as it comes to me.
Next year I want to do more work with covers and perhaps publishing a few more of the short stories that are hidden away on my computer. I have a few that will come out this year because that’s a goal on my bingo card, but for now I’m just organizing the rest.
The writing this year has been all over the map. I have another Haunted Hotel book almost ready to go to the editor and one in a first draft, which I’ll read through and see if it works for me in a few weeks. I also have a new gothic and a weird sort of tongue in cheek dystopian novel, that I’m not sure if I want to reread. That’s not really my genre but it was fun to write.
I’ve finally gotten myself to a place where I’m reading more again. What types of books are you enjoying?
